Reports indicate that beloved actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

A Significant Comeback for the Franchise

Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Speculation suggests their cameos will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.

This marks the sixth cinematic outing in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.

The Source Material

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who was behind nearly all the previous films in the series.

A New Era in Panem

The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several prominent actors in key parts:

• Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

In other news, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the shoot:

1. Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
2. Filming concluded in November of the same year.
3. The highly anticipated film is scheduled for November 2026 premiere.
