🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Niche Traversal Techniques Are Going Mainstream This Season The game developers has an exciting surprise prepared for Apex Legends gamers, arriving just in time for festive season. Fans of the battle royale's highly fluid movement will be pleased to discover that an innovative traversal feature is being implemented when the Amped season goes live on Nov. 4. Unveiling Mantle Boosting Dubbed "Momentum Boosting" by Respawn, this feature provides gamers a burst of forward momentum when scaling obstacles. As explained lead battle royale designer the design lead, this technique was previously existed of Apex Legends for some time, often called as "ledge boosting." However it's challenging for casual gamers, and typically employed by pro gamers in Ranked Mode or tournaments. This season, Respawn simplifies the process for players of all skill levels to successfully perform these tricky speed-boosts. "This technique have been in Apex for a while, but executing it isn't easy to perform and a player might not realize it [is in the game] without external guides," Canavese states. "Now including a Mantle Boost indicator so players can clearly identify the timing to trigger the high-octane movement ability, opening up the mechanic and introducing new ways to play for a much wider base." The Reasoning Behind Make It Accessible What's the reason for making a previously obscure technique accessible to all players? Lead Legend designer the development lead explains the team wants players to experience empowerment — even those who are new. "[The playerbase] performs advanced techniques like super-gliding and tap-strafing, and we examined at our competition, observed what our players are doing, and we wondered, 'What if we extend some of this power to a broader audience?'" Mohan clarifies. "Since right now, some of these techniques are kind of janky to use — it requires to change controls and hit one-frame windows. So we said, 'What if we make a more official implementation?'" The Amped Update Emphasis on Mobility Mobility is primarily the central theme in Season 27, with Legends the gravity mage, Rampart, and Valkyrie all getting buffs to help keep them mobile. The cooldown period on Horizon's Gravity Lift has been decreased, and the Gravity Lift will boost users upward faster than it used to. Her defensive walls now include overhead protection and capability to grant speed boosts to those nearby. But the spotlight is on aerial Valkyrie receiving significant improvements now, with multiple tweaks implemented to enhance her as stronger, quicker, and deadlier. "In my opinion many agree that her moment is here," states character developer Ian Holstead. "There's no doubt she was dominant previously, but with the introduction of other characters, movement[-based] passives, and redeployment tools, it seemed like she's not very relevant in today's Apex. This presented a really great opportunity for the team to reexamine a bunch of aspects in her abilities and essentially bring her back to her glory days." Enhancements to the Aerial Legend To restore Valkyrie's relevance in the game's meta, Holstead notes the team evaluated each of her abilities and implemented some powerful changes. Her VTOL Jets received improvements, boosting velocity during flight, and the jets themselves regenerates three times faster, allowing the player to spend more time in the air. Now she won't take damage from her own Missile Swarm, which has also been upgraded to mark enemies who take damage from it. Her Skyward Dive skill — which launches teammates skyward for repositioning or retreat — requires reduced delay to activate. She's also getting some new perk choices that users can select to conserve resources, expand the spread of her rockets, or further speed up her Skyward Dive takeoff time. "Valkyrie's equipment fulfills that jet-fighter fantasy," he comments. Map Changes Additionally, the only floating arena, this location, receives a movement-friendly facelift, with an extensive redesign that expands bottlenecks and renders claiming the high ground a bit less daunting. Respawn says the game this update focuses on providing gamers the tools required to compete in the competition. "Essentially, we were looking at the game's fundamental nature as a movement shooter," says lead Legend designer the lead. Apex Legends the Amped season launches November 4th at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST.
